Mayfair is a
magical place. Eleven years ago, it began as a tiny shop, and soon
grew into bigger, grander shops. But as the world around Mayfair
changed, the store once again returned to quaint proportions. The
legendary charm flourishes today.
Rebecca Avant began Mayfair, and over the past years, her friend Karen
Rhodes brought her talents to the entity. With the store now snuggled
inside a thriving antique mall - Mayfair has found shelter from a
turbulent world, and a garden in which to bloom.
The magic begins in a little pink cottage tucked under the trees behind
Rebecca's house. Almost any evening she can be found there - spinning
straw into gold, creating glittering objects from materials both
ravishing and humble. Out from the cottage flies fantastic crowns,
purses, pillows and the like, all richly laden in millinery flowers and
aged ribbon. Everything seems to shimmer, perhaps by a sprinkling from
the May Queen.
And at the same time, Karen is traveling the dusty roads of the
countryside in search of forgotten treasures, such as shabby furniture
in need of a new coat (preferably of pink paint!). The foggy old
mirrors find her, as she notices the gleam of gold leaf clinging to the
intricately carved frames. She hears the voices of those who lovingly
embroidered words of wisdom on vintage German linens. Karen rescues
tattered wedding veils, beautiful old lace hankies, antique china
pieces, and lucky blue horseshoes...all with a story to tell.
Together, Rebecca and Karen bring to Mayfair all that's sparkling and sweet, blending past and present into perfect harmony.
This is how the magic happens.
